Hurungwe District is situated in the north-western part of Zimbabwe and is one of the seven districts that make up Mashonaland West Province, boarded by Makonde district to the South and Guruve district of Mashonaland Central to the north. It is the largest district in Mashonaland West, with a total population of 324 675 over a total land area of 19 678.34KM2. The district is constituted of seven (7) chiefs and four (4) headmen.
There are five (5) police stations and three (3) police substation in the district. The judiciary is comprised of three (3) magistrates and four (4) prosecutors.
Four authorities namely Hurungwe Rural District Council, National Parks, Karoi Town Council and Chirundu Local Board administer the district.
Two authorities administer the urban sector of the district namely, Karoi town and Chirundu towns respectively.
The district also is home to one of the country’s biggest game reserve, the Zambezi Valley conservation area.
There is one growth point in the district called Magunje, with 78 rural service centres.
Hurungwe District is divided into 26 wards, which are classified as follows:
